Who are Everyman? - About Everyman
Friday, 11 December 2009 22:06

Everyman Theatre Cardiff, Cardiff's liveliest and most adventurous theatre company, was founded in 1942. It started life as the Unity Theatre Group, focusing on mainly political theatre, but later broke away and embarked on its own policy of presenting experimental live theatre in as professional and interesting a manner as possible. In the 1970s Everyman was instrumental in the opening of Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff. This, together with the advent of the Sherman Theatre, brought a new era for Everyman. Here was a professional theatre with all the technical facilities we longed for. For the last year or so, though, we have concentrated our productions within the home base of Chapter Arts Centre.

The 1980s saw Everyman's adventurous spirit lead to the staging of new writing in Chapter and in Stuttgart, an international festival in Southern Ireland and of course our own Open Air Theatre Festival, launched in 1983 at Dyffryn Gardens, Nr. Cardiff and now currently staged at the Museum of Welsh Life, St. Fagans.

The 1990s witnessed Everyman's 50th anniversary year in 1992 and two European tours. The Open Air Festival moved from Dyffyn House to the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagan's, and has grown from strength to strength. We have continued to produce innovative theatre and encourage new writing.

Why not join us and help Everyman Theatre, Cardiff continue its success well into the new century...

Joining Everyman

The best way to introduce yourself to Everyman is to come along to our FREE regular Club Nights on Wednesday evenings at Chapter Arts Centre with a mixed programme.

Clubnights are pretty informal, and you don't have to be a member to join in. You absolutely have to be a member before going on stage, but being paid up means you get the newsletter with first warning of auditions and dates, as well as the usual gossip and griping etc etc!

Membership and subscriptions

Subscriptions are renewable every September. Please send cheques payable to Everyman Theatre Cardiff Ltd to the Membership Secretary at Everyman, Chapter Arts Centre. If you have not renewed your subscription by January 1st, your name will be removed from the list of members, and will have to be approved at a Board meeting before you are re-admitted. When renewing, you do not need a new form — unless you have changed your contact details.
