Review: Winnie the Pooh ***
With a daughter who has loved Winnie the Pooh since the age of two, Everyman Theatre’s latest production was always a must.
The show, is part of the 28th Everyman Summer Theatre Festival, is set in the open grounds of St Fagans National History Museum- a perfect wooded location for a show set in the infamous 100 Aker Wood.
The enchanting stories written by AA Milne for his son Christopher Robin were based on toys in his nursery which came to life and went on great adventures with him. They were led by the bear of very little brain- Winnie the Pooh along with his friends Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo and Owl.
Young Daniel O’Driscoll played Christopher Robin to perfection and he even looked exactly like him, although it was David Sandford as Tigger who really brought the stage alive- it was just a shame that he didn’t have a bigger part.
Some of the older members of the cast including John Atkinson who played Winnie the Pooh, Eric Hadley (Eeyore) and Richard Watson (Owl) did not have quite the same magic as some of their younger companions and at times the production lacked pace.
But for the young Winnie the Pooh fans in the audience, anything starring their favourite bear was always going to delight them.
