What are Club Nights?

The title Club Night was commonly used in the fifties and sixties by organizations in order to exploit a loophole in the law. The loophole allowed night-clubs and theatre companies to put on shows that were deemed not fit for public or theatre audiences as instructed by the Lord Chamberlain’s department. The performances had to be put on for free and only for the benefit of friends and members of the company. Many well known plays like John Osborne’s A Patriot for Me started life in this manner.

The origins of Everyman’s own club night season stem from that period and the name club night (or clubnight) has remained ever since. Club nights are free for anybody to attend and you don’t have to be a member. They are held every Wednesday at 8:00 pm at Chapter Arts Centre, Market Rd., Canton, Cardiff, from September to May unless otherwise stated.

The Mikado auditions will take place at Chapter Arts Centre on Saturday & Sunday 4/5 February 2012 with further auditions/recalls, if necessary at a later date to be confirmed.

Please prepare a song and bring the music with you. It can be from The Mikado, any other Gilbert & Sullivan operetta or from another piece of musical theatre. If you wish to use a backing track, please let us know in advance.

If you are auditioning for a principal role, you may be asked to read some dialogue.

Please download and read the relevant audition pack and turn up 15 minutes before your audition slot with your completed audition form, with photograph. Spare audition forms will be available.

Before auditioning, please take a moment to consider the necessary level of commitment. Take careful note of the rehearsal period and be honest about your availability within it. Although the rehearsal process takes place over a number of weeks and consistent and punctual attendance is essential, as we will be operating within a very tight schedule. A high level of unavailability, persistent lateness and/or no-show will regrettably result in you being asked to leave the production.

Good luck!
