Festival Directors' Pitches - if you are interested in auditioning for or working backstage (in any capacity) on this year's Everyman Summer Theatre Festival shows then please come along to the Directors' pitches to find out more ...
HMS Pinafore
What shall we do with the lovesick sailor who’s in love with the Captain’s daughter?
Gilbert and Sullivan's ever popular comic operetta will be produced as part of the Everyman Summer Theatre Festival in the delightful surroundings of The National History Museum of Wales, Cardiff!
Director: Simon H West Musical Director: Gareth Wyn Griffiths Choreographer: Emma-Jayne Parker
It was HMS Pinafore that established Gilbert and Sullivan as a creative force to be reckoned with in British comic theatre. As well as some of their most famous music, it also has some of Gilbert’s most memorable characters: The First Lord of the Admiralty who has never been to sea, his extended family of sisters, cousins and aunts, Ralph and Josephine who love across the class divide and a Captain who is never seasick … well, hardly ever!
Our saucy ship will be setting sail in the twenties/thirties – Pinafore meets Anything Goes – with musical nods to the jazz era, jolly tap-dancing Tars, and some Busby Berkeley inspired routines. Girls could be Sailors and Boys might be Aunts; everyone is welcome on board whether singer, or dancer, or both! Never Mind The Why Or Wherefore, anything is possible on HMS Pinafore!
Performance Dates: Wednesday July 21st to Saturday July 31st 2010. (Evenings and one Saturday matinee)
